American Red Cross Training

Gain the knowledge and skills needed for effective leadership in the event of an emergency. We offer courses for First Aid CPR and AED, Water Safety Instructor, Basic Swim Instructor, Shallow Water Lifeguard (during Fall/Spring seasons), Deep Water Lifeguard (Summer season), Open Water Lifeguard, Lifeguard Instructor, Junior lifeguard; Basic Life Support and EMR, and Babysitting certifications. Bridge certifications available throughout the year.

Most certifications are valid for a 2-year period. Recertification is required for valid certification.

Babysitter's Training

Babysitting basics is designed primarily for youth ages 11 to 16, this course will prepare students to be better babysitters.

Topics include:
How to provide care for infants and children;
How to stay safe;
What to do in an emergency; CPR, First Aid, Choking etc
How to choose age-appropriate activities; and how to recognize and handle a variety of behaviors.

Students will also learn the basics of starting a babysitting business. The course consists of six interactive modules featuring video, activities, games and tools babysitters can use to build their knowledge and skills and manage their babysitting business. This course, which includes a final exam at the end, takes about 4 hours to complete. Students who successfully complete the course will receive a printable certificate. Students will receive a valid American red Cross First Aid/CPR/AED certification.

The primary purpose of the American Red Cross First Aid/CPR/AED program is to help participants recognize and respond appropriately to cardiac, breathing and first aid emergencies. The courses
in this program teach participants the knowledge and skills needed to give immediate care to an injured or ill person and to decide whether advanced medical care is needed.

Classes are held on Sunday afternoons, 12:00 pm to 5:00 pm

The instructor will communicate via email of training location.

Wear comfortable clothing, as you will be asked to move about the room and perform skills on the floor. Bring a snack and water.

Request in writing made prior to the first class—100%.
Request in writing made after the first class—50%. Request
after the second class—NO REFUND. Canceled programs—
100% refund or amount may be credited toward another
course or program. All refunds not related to a Y program
cancellation will be charged a $10.00 administrative fee.

Junior Lifeguard Camp

Junior Lifeguard Camp provides a foundation of aquatic skills, which helps youths (aged 11 – 14) make a smooth transition into the American Red Cross Lifeguard course. Each day will focus on a different skill to include CPR/First Aid, water rescues, patron surveillance, and victim recognition. Upon completion of this course, participants will receive their American Red Cross CPR/First Aid certification. Lifeguard certification can be obtained at age 15.

Fee includes all course materials, official YMCA Junior Lifeguard t-shirt, CPR mask, and whistle.

Camp will be Monday-Friday from 1pm-3pm.

Junior Lifeguards must pass a swim test prior to registering for this class. Please call the front desk to schedule your swim test. $25 deposit secures your spot, all other fees must be paid by the start of the class.

Swim test: 50 yard continuous swim and 60 second tread

Lifeguard Certification

The primary purpose of the American Red Cross Lifeguard course is to provide entry-level lifeguard participants with the knowledge and skills to prevent, recognize and respond to aquatic emergencies and to provide professional-level care for breathing and cardiac emergencies, injuries and sudden illnesses until emergency medical services (EMS) personnel take over.

The course consists of approx. 29 hours of a blended-learning style of instruction; the online content takes 7 hours to complete, and the in-person skills takes 19-21 hours. Lifeguard candidates need to pass a tryout before registering for this program. The last day to tryout is the Wednesday before the class begins. Upon passing the tryout, a $25 registration fee plus full class fee are applied to the candidates. They will receive an email from American Red Cross, to start their online class portion. The instructor will issue a syllabus and a digital version of the Lifeguard participant manual. Participants must be at least 15 years of age by the last day of the course.
